Moving Yourself Mistakes - By Carmack Moving and Storage

Many people try to move without help. At least, without professional help. The knowledge of professional movers like Carmack Moving and Storage can be an indispensable asset long before your actual moving day arrives.

Chantilly, VA, August 14, 2009 — If you plan on moving without the help of professionals like Carmack Moving and Storage, make sure you do the reconnaissance. Moving takes planning, patience, and time. Robert Carmack offers free advice for just such moving preparation.

First of all, index your boxes. A lot of people think that this is too much trouble. But think of it this way: You are going to unpack very much like you packed, one box at a time. You are not going to unpack in one day, either.

With an index of the contents of your boxes, you can simply read the index according to what you need that day and open the right box, rather than opening six different boxes because you need to find a frying pan to prepare eggs before hurrying off to your new job.

“Keep stress levels down,” cautions Robert Carmack of Carmack Moving and Storage. “Take thirty minutes in the beginning of your move and address the simple issues.” A month before your move, begin collecting the boxes you will be using. Carmack Moving knows that too many people do not even remember to gather empty boxes until the last few days before they are due to vacate their occupancy. Consequently, they find themselves running around hopelessly trying to pack four messy rooms into garbage bags and pillow cases at the last minute.

Carmack Moving and Storage is owned by Robert Carmack. With thirty years of moving experience, Mr. Carmack is intent on making moving less trouble through the simple virtue of planning ahead.

Moving soon? Moving Nearby? Professional moving company Carmack Moving and Storage offers up a piece of free advice to make everyone’s life easier: Plan your move.

Chantilly, VA, August 9, 2009 — The phrase “moving day” is a misnomer. Moving takes weeks leading up to the actual day when you must vacate your premises. Experienced movers like Carmack Moving and Storage will attest that “moving month” is more like it.

Short or long, a move is a move. Carmack Moving and Storage prefers to make sure you’ve packed everything entirely before the move. Then you can unpack it when you get there. No matter the distance of your move, box everything that you can possibly box.

Robert Carmack will agree – a few days before your move, pack a bag of articles you will need on hand for the next week. Within three days of your move, you should be living exclusively out of this suitcase, not out of your dressers, closets, office, or bedroom. “Think about the things you’ll need the first night in your new home,” advises Robert Carmack, owner of Carmack Moving and Storage. “Pack items that serve your basic needs in a separate bag and carry it with you.”

Seldom-used items should be packed as much as two weeks in advance. Pack all of your out-of-season clothing early. Toss a couple of books and DVDs into the suitcase you will be packing to live out of. Then box up the rest of your media early – all of it.

Mr. Robert Carmack owns Carmack Moving and Storage. He has over three decades of professional moving experience, and happily shares his insights and experience to facilitate smooth moves.

Carmack Moving and Storage says Don’t Hit a Sour Note When Moving a Piano!! By - Carmack Moving

There are many funny cartoons and movies that feature situations involving people trying to move a big heavy piano. Pianos can be very difficult to move, especially if they’re heavy antiques and heirlooms passed on from generations and you don’t utilize professionals like Carmack Moving and Storage. Here are some ways for you to move your piano to another room, or if you want to bring your piano with you as you move residences.

The grand piano is the first thing that comes to mind when people say “piano.” The strings of a grand piano are laid out horizontally along a specially-shaped case. Most grand pianos are used for ballrooms, auditoriums, music halls, and are often rented out for recitals and other formal functions.

Carmack Moving and Storage reminds you that he strings, keys, and hammer mechanisms of a grand piano are quite sensitive; you may accidentally cause the strings to go out of tune if you move the grand piano the wrong way. The lacquered case of a grand piano may also get pitted, chipped, or scratched.

If you do not use a professional service such as Carmack Moving and Storage you will need at least three people to move a grand piano. To move a grand piano, follow these steps:

1. Secure the lid of the piano with elastic bands or nylon straps.

2. Lift the piano from the front left leg, and carefully prop it on a jack.

3. Remove the front left leg, and carefully position the corner on the piano skid.

4. Remove the rear left leg, and lower the piano to its flat side on the skid.

5. Lift the piano up, using the edge of the piano as a lever. Once the piano is propped up on its flat side, remove the front right leg of the piano.

6. Protect the piano on the skid with blankets or other padding, and secure the instrument with cables or rope.

7. Move the piano very carefully while it’s secured on the skid.

It is always best to spend the money and hire a professional such as Carmack Moving and Storage. Long after you have saved a little money the scratches in the lacquer remain.

When Moving, Sometimes Short Is Harder – By Carmack Moving and Storage

Moving down the street can be more difficult than moving across the country. Professional movers like Carmack Moving and Storage know the ins and outs of a short move.

Chantilly, VA, August 05, 2009 — Robert Carmack knows that a short move can pose more obstacles and frustrations than a long one. The short distance can make you imagine there is less effort involved, causing a lapse in planning. If the destination of the move is nearby, it may not feel necessary to pack thoroughly. Beware of such a mindset.

Seasoned movers like Carmack Moving and Storage can help you avoid these pitfalls, but there are things you can do, too. A few days before the move, pack a bag or two as if you are leaving for a vacation, or heading off to visit out-of-town family for the weekend. “Remember to set aside items for each night you are in transition,” offers Robert Carmack, “like clothes, a towel, prescription drugs, a toothbrush and other personal items.”

Four weeks before the move, begin throwing away and selling unwanted items. You do not want to be entertaining buyers later in the month while you are trying to pack and organize your paperwork so as to be able to find it after the move.

Carmack Moving and Storage is a full service company of moving professionals that also offer a wealth of free advice about planning your move. They can be found on the web at http://carmackmoving.com.

Here are Ten Great Things to Remember Complements of Carmack Moving – By Carmack Moving & Storage

Start by packing the things you use least, such as books, seasonal clothing or sports equipment, and knickknacks. These are articles that can be put into storage when you first move into your new home.

Concentrate on packing one room at a time. Jumping from room to room just creates confusion for everyone. Carmack Moving recommends that you label all boxes coming from each room, that way you can locate them as they are unpacked. Once you are done in that room, stack the finished boxes against one wall.

Always wrap nuts and bolts in a clearly labeled plastic bag. This seems like the simplest of things until you arrive ready to reassemble everything and there is not a nut or bolt to be found anywhere.

Carmack Moving recommends that you empty large pieces such as dressers completely. While it may seem more efficient to just move a piece leaving the contents in it, furniture tends to break more easily if not emptied first thing. Jot down serial numbers on all electronic equipment; take pictures of the condition of such things as art and large flat items that may be damaged in the move.

Do not pack flammables like aerosol cans, paints, or gasoline. Not only is it not safe, but you risk damaging contents in other boxes. When using professional movers such as Carmack Moving, you will be reminded of this early on.

Don’t pack perishables like frozen foods, produce, or plants; transport these in your vehicle or bless a neighbor with them. Food not canned will never make the move successfully.

Carmack Moving recommends keeping chilled water or soda available so they don’t dehydrate. It’s also nice to be able to grab a drink when you need one!

Don’t place soaps, sprays, polishes, and medicine in the same box as food. Again, not only do you risk not being able to easily locate what you need but the possibility of these liquids leaking and damaging other items in high.

Remember your movers. They get hot and tired just like you do. A little kindness goes a long way toward building goodwill as you ask for those little extra things to be done.
